WILD FOXES( La danse des renards) By Valéry Carnoy | BELGIUM, FRANCE | 2025 | 92 MIN | FRENCH
At a sports boarding school, talented young boxer Camille narrowly survives a fatal accident, saved by his best friend Matteo. After a swift recovery, an inexplicable pain gradually takes hold of him, threatening his dreams of greatness and his relationship with the team. In the ring and in a man's world, there’s no room for weakness.
Camille is the golden boy of boxing at his boarding school — admired, sometimes envied by his peers, and destined for success in the eyes of his coaches. His trajectory is abruptly altered when an accident almost claims his life. Saved by his best friend Matteo, Camille gradually returns to the ring, but as he recuperates, a phantom pain begins to tear at him and soon affects his physical performance. His confidence erodes, his dominance wanes, and his unraveling becomes a source of embarrassment, putting his position on the team at risk. As Matteo rises through the ranks, positioned to take Camille’s place, their friendship begins to fracture, exposing the delicate balance between loyalty and rivalry. In Valéry Carnoy’s feature debut, the sweat-soaked violence of the gym and quiet devastation of Camille’s inner collapse make for a gripping portrait of young masculinity under pressure as strength becomes an inescapable trap.
