LE CLUB LECTURE 

Join Nicole Layseca to talk about Francophone Literature ! 

The Alliance launches its own book club from November to March ! One Tuesday per month, join the Club de Lecture to discuss the book of the month. Share  your thoughts, opinions with the other members and get the opportunity to expand your literary culture and to improve your French! 

*** BOOK OF THE MONTH ***  

• En attendant Bojangles de Olivier Bourdeaut - 171 pages 

The first novel of Olivier Bourdeaut takes us into the daily life of a joyful and whimsical family, in which there is only room for craziness and pleasure. In their parisian apartment, a young boy lives with his madcap parents (and an exotic bird !) and marvels at them dancing each night on “Mr Bojangles”, Nina Simone’s famous song after which the novel was named. As the unpredictable and mesmerizing mother, always leading the way, descends deeper into her mind, it is up to the young boy and his father to keep the party going.. 

Le premier roman d’Olivier Bourdeaut nous emmène dans le quotidien d’une famille fantasque et joyeuse, dans laquelle il n’y a de place que pour la folie et le plaisir. Dans leur appartement parisien, le jeune garçon vit avec ses parents excentriques (et un oiseau exotique!), et s’émerveille de les voir danser chaque soir sur “Mr Bojangles”, la célèbre chanson de Nina Simone qui a donné son nom au roman. Tandis que leur mère, envoûtante et imprévisible, menant toujours la danse, s’enfonce peu à peu dans sa folie, le fils et son père sont déterminés à poursuivre la fête, guidés par un amour fou qui n’a jamais aussi bien porté son nom.

*** FRANCOPHONE LITERATURE AT THE ALLIANCE *** 

The promotion of francophone literature is definitely at the heart of the Alliance’s commitment, as it is a wonderful opportunity to account for the richness and the diversity of the French language as well as the multiple cultural influences attached to Francophonie. Also, it is always a great way to improve one’s French reading comprehension !
