*** BOOK OF THE MONTH ***
Un barrage contre le pacifique (The Sea Wall), is largely inspired by Marguerite Duras’ adolescence. The renowned French author focuses in
this novel on a woman and her two children, Suzanne and Joseph, who live in an uncultivable concession of French Indochina, forcing the
mother to hopelessly intend to build a seawall to prevent the Pacific Ocean from flooding her lands. Marguerite Duras, through depicting the
latent family’s failure to satisfy their social rise desire, offers another view of the colonial experience, using her brutal writing to
express the misery of their living conditions and the disillusion of the modest settlers.
