To celebrate the opening of the exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, we invite you to join the Alliance Française Board member and Art Historian Terry Dolan for a talk on the South of France works of Matisse.

Henri Matisse lived from 1869 to 1954. He is considered the most outstanding representative of Fauvism, but before he came to this direction in painting he created in different styles. His friend and competitor was Pablo Picasso. The Matisse exhibit will forge connections with the Barnes Foundation with its significant collection of Matisse's work with a concentration on "The Dance", one of the major works to be created during his stay in Nice.

Therese Dolan is Professor Emerita of Modern and Contemporary Art at Temple University. She is a modernist art historian who specializes in nineteenth-century French and American art and has also published on contemporary art. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from Bryn Mawr College, and her undergraduate degree in French from Mundelein College in Chicago. She has authored four books including "Salut! France meets Philadelphia" (co-authored with Lynn Miller) which received the Athenaeum of Philadelphia 2020 Art and Architecture Award in 2020.
She is on the Advisory Board of the Barnes Foundation and a board member of the Alliance Française in Philadelphia.
