-
The Ambler Theater , 108 E Butler Ave., Ambler, PA

Join the Alliance Française de Philadelphie, partner of the French Film Series at the AMBLER THEATER !

The French Film Series is a partnership between the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie and Renew Theaters with the aim to select and propose French and francophone films to a wider audience in Ambler and Doylestown Theater. This initiative is supported by the Vesta Fund, based in the Gwynedd valley in Pennsylvania.

Over the year we will be screening:
- a recent film that won a César or has global recognition
- an Iconic Classic with a lecture
- a film selected by a Guest Programmer who has knowledge of French language cinema
- a Family Friendly event around a film
- a Cult French film
....

This September, we will be screening PLAYTIME  (Colorized version), the iconic film by Jacques Tati. Eric Faden, Professor of English and Film/Media Studies at Bucknell University, will introduce PLAYTIME and will explore the film’s themes and visual style.

About the Film

1967 - 2h35min - Comedy directed by Jacques Tati, with Jacques Tati, Barbara Dennek

One of the most impeccably choreographed films of all time, Jacques Tati’s PLAYTIME is a carefully constructed feature that took three years to complete. Tati stars as the lovable, old-fashioned Monsieur Hulot; we follow his exploits, which run parallel to an American tourist as the duo attempts to navigate a technology-forward Paris. This comedy of confusion perfects mise-en-scène, with every frame filled to the brim with inventiveness and quirky characters. In French w/ subtitles.
