The TCF IRN is aimed at all foreign nationals over 16 years old who want to confirm their level of French in order to apply for French
nationality; apply for a long-term residence permit or validate A1 level as part of the OFII citizenship process.
As of May 12th, 2025, the TCF IRN will evaluate candidates up to level B2 in order to anticipate the new government
requirements for French language proficiency.
TCF IRN B1 certificates are valid for naturalization until the promulgation of the decree (publication date unknown to date).
TCF IRN is made up of 4 mandatory tests that assess general French language skills.
It assesses only linguistic skills and not knowledge of French history, culture and society.
The TCF IRN has a total duration of 1 hour 35 minutes.
The exam is programmed on 1 half day or 1 full day depending on the number of candidates.
It is not possible to change the time of your exam.
There will probably be some waiting time between some of your examination parts.
