Scholarships Awardees 2024

Alliance Française de Philadelphie awards two scholarships for francophone students and young professionals

Philadelphia, PA, May 2, 2024

The Alliance Française de Philadelphie Scholarship committee awarded two brilliant candidates to their 2024 scholarship program. The AFP scholarship committee has considered need, merit, and career plans while selecting the winners.

The Pierre C. Fraley scholarship’s beneficiary is Jennifer Graham-Hougah, who will attend the Middlebury College Summer Immersion Program in Vermont. Jennifer is currently completing her Master of Science in Teaching, Subject Matter French, at Rowan University. She has taken French since high school and says that “from the first time I heard French on the radio, I always imagined that I would speak it one day.” Jennifer is pursuing a career as a teacher of French as a Foreign Language, so she wants to increase her proficiency with the Middlebury immersion program. We are so pleased to help her gain this experience and build a foundation for her future teaching career.

Riley Green is the Marie-Louise Vermeiren Jackson Scholarship recipient. She will use the scholarship to attend a study abroad program in Nantes, France. Riley is a Carnegie Mellon University student and will graduate in French Studies and International Relations in the fall. Regarding the Nantes internship, Riley states: “I’m convinced that this opportunity will be crucial for my personal and professional development and will help me consider a career that will combine my interests for international justice and Francophone studies, and also the culinary arts.” We are honored to help facilitate Riley’s career adventure.

The Alliance Française de Philadelphie wishes to thank the families of Marie-Louise Vermeiren Jackson and Pierre C. Fraley, for their generosity in establishing a scholarship program that will, in their names, encourage, enable, and promote the study of the French language and culture among deserving young people.
