Dear Friend of the Alliance Française,

Your Alliance Française de Philadelphie has served as Philadelphia’s main cultural and social connection to the Francophone world for over a century. Over the last 18+ months of tremendous adversity, we have continued to fulfill our mission to help people learn French and deepen their knowledge of Francophone cultures by innovating, adapting and remaining committed to offering a wide variety of classes for all levels, many cultural events and a welcoming community. We believe this challenging time provided us with an incredible opportunity for evolution, and we responded by opening doors to different methods of exploring the Francophone through virtual programming that has allowed us to cover greater distances and welcome a larger and more diverse community. We are grateful you have chosen to join us on this journey of learning and building cultural connections.

We are only able to fulfill our mission with your support, and we thank you for your generosity. We appreciate your personal donations and membership dues, and we also consider ourselves fortunate to have received generous support in a variety of other forms. Recently, we have received the assistance of a member in applying for and securing PPP funding, pro bono legal support to secure a work visa for a French citizen, a generous donation to establish our new Marie Louise Vermeiren Jackson scholarship for the study of French, and a meaningful contribution to fund teacher compensation. Thanks to the combination of these sources of support, we have been able to continue to employ our impressive teachers and administrative staff and to enable them to work collaboratively to offer a diverse and high-quality set of courses and cultural programs for all ages, levels, schedules and budgets (including numerous free events), often in partnership with local individuals, businesses and associations, and Alliance Française chapters in other cities.

We are proud of our achievements and both confident and hopeful about our future. Our board of directors has recently elected new officers, and we look forward to building on our solid foundation while also bringing fresh and diverse perspectives to enhance the Alliance Française de Philadelphie’s cultural and educational impact for the greater Philadelphia community. As we approach Thanksgiving, we take this time to thank you for being part of our community and to encourage you to think of us on Giving Tuesday. Your support plays a vital role in enabling us to continue our important mission and to serve you, our community and our priority.
